Day 50 - Buck UP

Ok ok I admit, I've left you goals. I've pushed you out of my mind. I think about you sometimes...as I choose not to write about you. You're boring, I think. Unimportant to my paragraphs. You hold the words back, weigh them down.

And then I see you in my sidebar. My 'progress report.' My point of all this. Unchanged. Un-updated. You linger on last week's ambiguities. I re-read my headlines. I think that I'm a fake.

I try to fake-muster enthusiasm. I think about all the people who I think are better than me. This is easy for successful people, right, sticking to goals? I'm overwhelmed. How do they stay motivated? How do I re-motivate myself? Am I bound to fail...

First step, I think, perhaps, maybe, is to re-evaluate my goals.

Second step, I think, perhaps, maybe, is to re-dedicate myself to them.

Third step, I think, perhaps, maybe, is to write it all here. Say it out loud.

Here goes...

1) Re-evaluate - Writing a book - missing big idea...brainstorm for GREAT book/screenplay idea for 15 minutes per day until find one I'm confident about. Day one starts tomorrow...
Art - one per week still seems attainable plus I LOVE it
Exercise - always missing the 5 per week mark, but pretty consistently hitting 3-4. Still want to push for it, but am reducing goal to 4x per week. Still progress considering I was pretty sporadic with exercise prior to project. Need to build confidence...
Volunteering - Touchdown with my preferred organization Planting Peace and received assignment yesterday, will update all later! Very excited...
Quitting smoking - one and a half months, hurray!!!!!
Eating healthy - need to break down into smaller attainable goals...new goals: no diet coke. 2 fruits and 2 veggies per day; starting Monday

2) Re-dedicate - I hereby rededicate myself to these goals, albeit revised. Hear ye. Hear ye.

3) Say it out loud. Check.

Wish me luck...

p.s. what do yall do to keep motivated? have you succeeded in some goal you've always wanted, and if so, how'd you do it? tips?

Well done with your progress so far!

As for motivation, I always wanted to be able to do the splits but never stuck at it for long enough -then last year I joined a student dance team where it was part of the choreography and so I had to do it. I can now do a good impression of someone who can do the splits (still not entirely happy with it, but it's close!)

Maybe to keep motivated to exercise/eat healthily you could do a sponsored challenge which requires a better-than-average level of fitness: climb a mountain? A long distance bicycle ride? Run a marathon? Doesn't have to be as extreme as those examples, but should be quite challenging: if you have something to aim for, it helps.

Good luck!

Fact; Nothing worth doing is easy to do... If you ask me, which you did, I think you need to focus on one thing at a time. It takes ten days to break (or introduce) a habit.... You have to make things like this a part of your everyday life. It is much more beneficial to do one thing at a time and do it well, rather than "Half-assing" ten things.... I say focus on exercise and eating well first. I believe a healthy body is the foundation to everything else. (think health not fitness)......
P.S.
Since I can't recall my brilliance from the comment I made on my blog, I'll give you the short answer... Oranges... they sit around 3.5 on the P.H. scale so they are acidic but there is no need to avoid them entirely. All fruit should be taken ONLY on an empty stomach and in some moderation. It does contains sugar. Albeit natural sugar, too much is not so good... Green veggies are the way to go!
P.P.S
Avocados....'nuff said
Peace

Thanks for the advice everyone!

NearlyThirty: That's a great idea; Dave is currently is some kind of 60-day-challenge. i have been joining him but still overcome with lazy sometimes. my cousin erin does yoga challenges every now and again through her studio, i wonder if i could find something like that as i LOVE me some yoga. hmmmm....
Anonymous One: do u think the goal lowering is a cop out? I was wondering that myself, but just felt kind of felt lacking confidence...will ramp levels again as i get more confidence and triumph over small steps
Anonymous Two: I love you mome ;-)
Denny: Hurray! Oranges = not so bad...most citrus fruits are alkaline though? i love fruit in the morning so that's good...
i think you have a good point about the goal thing...question is what to pare down? i want them ALL!

Goal lowering a cop out? absolutely not! I agree with Denny, focus and one at a time. And just because you don't achieve right away- you can't give up. Give yourself a break and a pat on the back. You are out there trying! You are too hard on yourself! Give yourslef a hug!
